CONDUMEX today announced a channel partnership with Nuton LLC, under which Condumex will serve as Nuton® Technology’s primary downstream fabricator.
May 8th, 2026
The partnership enables a traceable, North American low-carbon copper value chain, supporting the electrification, digitalization, and infrastructure investments driving U.S. industrial growth.
Nuton® Technology is used to process ore from Gunnison Copper’s Johnson Camp Mine in Arizona, U.S., into copper cathodes and is among the lowest-carbon-footprint copper producers in the country, enabled by advanced processing technology, responsible operating standards, and renewable energy credits.”
Through this partnership, Condumex will transform Nuton copper cathodes into high-quality copper cable, wire, and hybrid cables used to power and control electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, data centers and digital infrastructure, power grids and renewable energy systems, and telecommunications and industrial applications.
Together, Nuton and Condumex are working to deliver materials that meet growing customer expectations for sustainability, traceability, and supply reliability.
By combining U.S.-produced low-carbon copper with North American manufacturing capabilities, the partnership offers tangible benefits to U.S. customers, including alignment with domestic content and procurement objectives, reduced Scope 3 emissions for copper-intensive products, greater transparency and auditability of material origin, and enhanced supply security in a tightening global copper market.
This model supports industries seeking to manage carbon risk, regulatory exposure, and long-term cost stability while maintaining high performance and quality standards.
About Nuton® Technology
Nuton, a Rio Tinto venture, uses proprietary, nature-based bioleach technology to unlock copper from hard-to-process ores while significantly reducing environmental impact. The technology delivers recovery rates of up to 85% for primary sulfides, and early estimates indicate up to 60% lower carbon emissions pertonne versus conventional methods. At the Johnson Camp Mine in Arizona, Nuton® is enabling production of the United States’ lowest-carbon copper on a mine-to-refined-metal basis. Nuton® aims to deliver Measurable positive impact across water, energy, land, materials, and society while strengthening domestic copper supply chains.
